Tragedy on Third Mainland: Illegal Supercar Race After Seyi Vibez Show Ends in 2 Death
Lagos woke up to chaos on Sunday morning after a deadly illegal car race on the Third Mainland Bridge claimed at least two lives, including innocent motorists caught in the crash.
According to eyewitnesses, a fleet of luxury rides — including Mercedes GLEs and Lexus RX350s — turned the 11.8km bridge into their personal racetrack just hours after the buzzing Seyi Vibez concert. But the joyride turned tragic when one of the speedsters lost control, causing a chain-reaction collision that left mangled cars scattered across the bridge.

Videos making rounds on social media show wrecked vehicles and emergency workers trying to manage the disaster, sparking heated reactions from Nigerians who are furious over the rising trend of reckless late-night racing in Lagos.
“This bridge has become a death trap at night,” one X (Twitter) user lamented, calling for tighter patrols and speed cameras to clamp down on the menace.
For years, the Third Mainland has been notorious for drag races and stunt driving despite government warnings. Now, with two lives lost and more families thrown into mourning, many are demanding that authorities finally get serious before the next tragedy strikes.
