Arsenal were on fire at the Emirates on Saturday, smashing newly-promoted Leeds United 5-0 in a dominant performance that showed just how ruthless Mikel Arteta’s men can be.
The win makes it seven straight victories over Leeds, sends the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table (for now), and gave fans a glimpse of their new star striker Viktor Gyökeres — who grabbed a debut brace.
Timber Starts the Party
Arsenal came out strong, with captain Martin Ødegaard going close before limping off injured. Leeds had a half-chance when Pascal Struijk’s header was denied by David Raya, but that was as good as it got.
From then on, it was all Arsenal. Declan Rice swung in a wicked corner and Jurrien Timber rose high to nod home the opener. The Dutch defender wasn’t done yet — just before half-time, he slipped a neat ball to Bukayo Saka, who blasted it into the net with his weaker foot to make it 2-0.
Gyökeres Breaks His Duck
The second half saw Arsenal step it up another gear. Riccardo Calafiori played Gyökeres through, and the Swedish striker cut inside before smashing his first Gunners goal at the near post.
Moments later, Saka went off injured, but Arsenal didn’t slow down. Timber was in the right place again to poke home from a corner scramble, making it 4-0.
A Debut to Remember
With the game already sealed, Arteta handed 15-year-old Max Dowman his Premier League debut. The youngster didn’t waste time — winning a stoppage-time penalty that Gyökeres coolly tucked away for his second of the night.
Statement Win
It was a dream night for Arsenal, who have now gone 43 home games unbeaten against newly-promoted sides — equalling a Premier League record. Leeds, on the other hand, saw their seven-match winning run end in brutal fashion.
Timber was the clear standout, finishing with two goals and an assist.
