The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, August 23, 2025, WAEC announced that the results of 177 candidates have been completely cancelled, while the subject results of 718 others have also been annulled due to various examination malpractices.

Withheld Results Pending Investigations

The Council further disclosed that the entire results of 93 candidates have been withheld pending investigations, in addition to the subject results of 1,240 candidates.

Similarly, the subject results of some candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, while results of candidates from 87 schools remain withheld for further scrutiny.

WAEC noted that the outcome of these investigations, expected to be completed by September 6, 2025, will determine whether the withheld results will be released or cancelled.

Results Access

WAEC explained that it will dispatch the official results of school candidates to their respective institutions through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education.

Candidates may also check their results online via the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.

Examination Statistics

According to WAEC, a total of 603,328 candidates sat for the examination, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools nationwide.

The examination also accommodated candidates with special needs, including 72 visually impaired students, 239 with hearing impairments, and 161 candidates requiring other forms of test accommodation.

The 2025 BECE was conducted across 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.

Malpractices and Disciplinary Measures

WAEC revealed that the decision to cancel or withhold certain results was taken after its 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for BECE 2025, held on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The measures approved include:

  • Cancellation of subject results of 718 candidates

  • Cancellation of entire results of 177 candidates

  • Withholding of subject results of 1,240 candidates

  • Withholding of entire results of 93 candidates

WAEC emphasized that affected candidates will receive official notifications on the reasons for cancellation or withholding of their results. Heads of schools and proprietors can also verify the status of their candidates’ results using their results listing logins.

Caution Against Fraudsters

The Council issued a stern warning to candidates and stakeholders to be vigilant against fraudsters promising to upgrade results for a fee, stressing that all WAEC results are secured and verifiable.
